CDP News: Apr. 10, 2015

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Next week we’re going to slow down on the training events, as we’ll be holding our yearly All-Staff meeting at CDP HQ. We’ve got plenty more in the pipeline after that though!

On Wednesday, we had our quarterly webinar. Dr. Diana Dolan provided an overview of the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale for DSM-5 (CAPS-5). We had a sizeable crowd as Dr. Dolan discussed the benefits and importance of formal, structured assessment in determination of a PTSD diagnosis. If you weren’t able to attend the live event, we’ll be posting a recording of it in our Webcasts section here.  Also, check out our Quarterly Webinar section for a list of upcoming topics!

Speaking of online events, we just opened up registration for our next online training, Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapy Training via Second Life, 6-7 May. This two-day event will train participants in the use of PE therapy to treat PTSD. For more information or to register for this event, please click here. Space in this event is limited and our online events usually fill up pretty quick, so if you’re interested in taking part, sign up soon! If you’d like to be notified when registration opens for future online events, you can sign up for our online events mailing list here. Once you’re signed up, you’ll automatically be emailed when we open registration for upcoming online training events.

If you’re looking for face-to-face events, we’ve got those as well. We’re finalizing the details for our upcoming Great Lakes Regional 1-Week Civilian Training. This one will be held in Minneapolis, MN 15-19 June. Registration for this event is scheduled to begin in the next couple of weeks. You can sign up here If you would like to be notified via email when we open registration to the public.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, head over to the four-module Military Culture: Core Competencies for Healthcare Professionals online course. This self-paced online course is designed to help providers gain an understanding of the importance of and breadth of military culture. Each of the four modules in the course is eligible for two CEU credits upon completion of the final exam. We’ve recently made some significant improvement to make the course more user-friendly. Participants can now save their progress through the modules and should have a more streamlined process for receiving the CEU credits. It’s a great course and we highly recommend it for everyone interested in learning more about the military and its unique culture.

Finally, don’t forget to take a few minutes to check out this week’s Research Update on the CDP’s Blog. It’s got all the latest news, articles and plenty of useful links related to deployment psychology.

That’s it for this time around. Have a great weekend and we’ll see you on Monday with a new entry in our By the Numbers column!
