CDP News: July 31, 2015

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We’re at the end of July, but we’ve still got plenty on our summer agenda!

This week we sent trainers to Azusa, CA for the Star Behavioral Health Providers program to provide a training on Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). For more details about the SBHP program and the tiers of training, you can head to our SBHP webpage here.

This week we also held our latest CDP Presents webinar, entitled “Women in the Military.” It was a great presentation by Dr. Carin Lefkowitz and was attended by over 150 participants! If you couldn’t attend the live version, but are interested in the topic, we’ll be posting a recording of the event sometime next week on the CDP Presents section of our website. Our next webinar will focus on military culture and will be led by Dr. Jenna Ermold.  It’s scheduled to be held 27 August from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Eastern.

Speaking of online events, we’re heading into the final week of registration for our next online PE training course held in Second Life. The training will be from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern on 12-13 August. Registration is scheduled to close on 5 August, but will end sooner if we reach capacity before then, so if you’re interested in taking part, register today! If you’d like to be emailed when registration for any of our upcoming online events begins, you can sign up for our online events email list here.

Registration begins today for the 2016 Military and Veteran Behavioral Health Certificate Program at Widener University in Exton, PA. This certificate program runs over the course of three weekends, beginning in March 2016. It is designed to aid providers in gaining knowledge and skills to address the emotional struggles and psychological health needs of Service members, Veterans, and their families. For more information or to register for this program, please click here.

We’ve recently posted even more career opportunities at the CDP to the Jobs section of the website. We’ve got multiple positions available in a variety of skill sets. If you or someone you know would like to work here at the CDP, head over and check what we’ve got available!

Finally, over in the CDP Blog, this week’s Staff Perspective entry was by Dr. Debra Nofziger. She wrote about “Smartphone Apps for the Anxiety-Minded.” In it she took a look at a couple of very useful apps designed to help calm users down and increase relaxation. As worried as people get about technology, it’s good to see that it can also help calm us down as well!. Also, don’t forget to take a few minutes to read this week’s Research Update on the CDP’s Blog. It’s got all the latest news, articles and plenty of useful links related to deployment psychology.

That’s it for this time around. We hope everyone has a great weekend! Come back to the CDP Blog on Monday for a  with a new entry in our “By the Numbers” series.
