CDP News: June 17, 2016

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. June continued to be another busy month! We had training events going on all around the country, with even more on the horizon.

First up, we’d like to thank all the attendees of our latest Regional Civilian One-Week training event, which ran all week in Columbus, OH.  It was a great week of training and interacting with providers from all over.  If you weren’t able to make it, don’t worry, we’re already working on the next session. We’ll hold a couple more iterations of this event before the end of the year. If you’d like to be notified via email when registration opens, just complete the form here.

On Wednesday and Thursday, we were in New York City for the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program. Dr. Libby Parins led a training on suicide prevention. Following that, on Thursday and Friday, we headed to Tallahassee, FL for the University Counseling Center Core Competency Extended (UC4-E) program. Dr. Kevin Holloway presented a training on Prolonged Exposure Therapy.  Finally, on Thursday and Friday, Dr. Andy Santanello was in Boston to present on Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for our Speakers Bureau program. To learn more about bringing a CDP speaker to your organization’s next event, head over to our Speakers Bureau page.

We’ve got several more events coming up next week as well. This month’s CDP Presents webinar, “Reconceptualizing Resilience and Growth in the Wake of Trauma”, will be on Tuesday from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern. Attendees who complete a post-training survey and evaluation will be eligible for one free CE as well. Then our next two-day online training on CPT will be held on Wednesday and Thursday in Second Life. Registration is also available for the 20-21 July training on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression.  Also, the SBHP program will take us to both Indiana and Michigan present on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) on Tuesday and Wednesday and Wednesday and Thursday, relatively.

This week in the CDP blog, our Staff Perspective entry was by Jenny Phillips, entitled “Employment Concerns for Military Spouses”. She took a look at some of the problems and issues that face military spouses when entering the workplace. There are also several great resources that can help overcome those hurdles. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.

That’s all we’ve got for this week. We hope everyone has a great weekend. Joins us back here next week for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” column!
