CDP News: June 24, 2016

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It’s the first official week of summer, but we were hard at work, both here at CDP headquarters and on the road.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we were in Madison, IN for the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program. Dr. Bill Brim presented on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). Dr. Diana Dolan also led a CBT-I training in Michigan Wednesday and Thursday as part of the SBHP program. To learn more about this program or to find out if your state participates, click here to visit the SBHP section of our website.

As mentioned, in addition to our face-to-face events, we also had multiple events in the virtual realm. On Tuesday we had this month’s CDP Presents webinar, “Reconceptualizing Resilience and Growth in the Wake of Trauma”. If you missed it, we’ll be posting a recording of it in the CDP Presents page soon. While you’re there, don’t forget to sign up for next month’s CDP Presents, “Use of Mobile Applications in Clinical Practice with Service Members and Veterans.” We also had a two-day CPT training in Second Life on Wednesday and Thursday in Second Life. Registration is currently available for the next two online EBP training events, the 20-21 July training on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression and a CBT-I training on 17-18 August.

Speaking of upcoming online events, we’ll also be presenting a one-day training on Assessment and Treatment of Chronic Pain on Tuesday in Second Life. It’s the first time we’ve held this training in Second Life. We’re very excited to expand our online catalog! If you’re interested in receiving emails about future training events, you can sign up here.

This week in the CDP blog, our Staff Perspective entry was by Dr. Tim Rogers, entitled “Training and Clinical Competence – Understanding the Importance of Supervision”. Dr. Rogers reviews a recent study on the effects of post-training supervision. For all those who have attended a CDP-led EBP training, you can take advantage of the free weekly consultation offered via phone. Visit the Consultation section for details! Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.

That’s for this week’s edition of CDP News. Have a good weekend and enjoy summer, wherever you’re at! We hope to see everyone back here next week for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” column.
