CDP News: April 19, 2013

Happy Friday everyone! It’s time to wrap the week up with a look at the latest news and happenings around the Center for Deployment Psychology in this week’s CDP News. We’ve completed five of the eight days of the latest iteration of our “Topics in Deployment Psychology”. It’s been a very good session so far with plenty of great presenters and engaged participants. Our thanks go out to both groups for making it such a success so far.

The University Counseling Center Core Competency program continues to keep our team busy, as we visit colleges and universities across the nation. This week CDP Executive Director, Dr. David Riggs was in Philadelphia to deliver the program at Drexel University. Next Thursday, Dr. Ted Bonar and Dr. Kelly Chrestman will head to the University of Denver to present there. The UC4 program continues to get very positive reviews from participants. If you’re interested in bringing the program to your local area, fill out and submit our training request form here.

Also on the subject of upcoming training events, our 2013 Midwest Regional 1-Week Civilian Training event in Madison, WI is open for registration. This course is designed for civilian behavioral health providers to get in-depth training on the entire spectrum of issues facings Service Members, Veterans, and their families. It’s a great opportunity for those already treating military personnel or those interested in doing so.

If you or someone you know is interested in working at the CDP, check out our Jobs section. We have several positions posted, including two recently added Project Manager positions. Take a look and maybe you’ll see something interesting!

Highlights of the blog this week included Dr. Holly O’Reilly’s review of the powerful documentary “The Invisible War,” which attempts to shine a light on military sexual trauma. It’s an important subject and Dr. O’Reilly’s piece also looks at some of the recent policy changes that are happening to address this topic. Also worth a look was this week’s Research Update. It’s got plenty of interesting journal articles and topical links from around the web.

That’s all for this week, have a great weekend everyone! We’ll see you back here on Monday with a brand new By the Numbers entry.
