CDP News: April 26, 2013
It’s Friday and that means it’s time for another edition of our weekly roundup of all the happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, CDP News. This week marked the conclusion of our latest iteration of the eight-day “Topics in Deployment Psychology” course. We’d like to thank all of our participants and presenters, both staff and guests. We certainly couldn’t have done it without you! It’s a lot of work for everyone, but it’s well worth the effort for such successful results. One particular panel of note, after the enthuastic reception it received in our last iteration, we held another panel focusing on lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender in the military. It was a very thought provoking discussion and we’d like to extend a special thank you to all involved in making it happen.
Other training events we held this week included a visit to the University of Denver yesterday to present our University Counseling Center Core Competency program. Next up for the UC4 training is a visit to the Ohio State University on May 8-9 for an instructional session on Prolonged Exposure Therapy as part of the UC4-Extended training program.
Also, coming up next Wednesday, May 1, our Speakers Bureau will be sending Laura Copland to Baltimore to present to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene on the “Treatment of PTSD and Co-occurring Disorders.” As always, if you’re interested in bringing a member of the CDP to present at your organization’s event or gathering, fill out our Speakers Bureau request form.
Registration continues for the 2013 Midwest Regional 1-Week Civilian Training in Madison, WI June 3-7. These training sessions are a great opportunity to learn about a wide variety of issues regarding deployment that face our Service Members, Veterans and their families. Space is limited at these events, so if you’re interested, be sure and register today!
