CDP News: May 10, 2013

We’ve reached the end of another week, which means it’s time to review the latest news and look forward to upcoming events in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology in this week’s CDP News. As usual, our training efforts are keeping us busy and out on the road. This week as part of the University Counseling Center Core Competency-Extended program, we headed to Columbus, OH to hold a two-day session on Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) at The Ohio State University. It was a great event, as Dr. Ted Bonar and Dr. Elizabeth Parins. presented to over 100 university counseling center clinicians from all across the country. We’d like to thank all who attended and made it such a rousing success!

We’ve got several more UC4 and UC4-E events scheduled for the summer and into the fall. In fact, next Wednesday and Thursday we’ll be headed to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to teach a session on Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Also on Thursday, Dr. Jenna Ermold and Dr. Kevin Holloway will be visiting Illinois State University in Normal, IL to present the standard UC4 course. For more information on any of these upcoming programs or to see about bringing the UC4 program to your local college or university, visit the program’s page here.

While on the subject of upcoming training events, there are only two weeks left to register for the upcoming 2013 Midwest Regional 1-Week Civilian Training to be held in Madison, WI on June 3-7. This will be five days of valuable instruction from CDP’s expert staff on a variety of deployment-related behavioral health issues. It’s a great way for providers to learn about the myriad issues facing Soldiers, Veterans, and their families, before, during and after military deployment.

Even if you can’t attend any of the CDP’s in-person training events, there are still opportunities to learn more. We offer a list of self-paced, online instructional courses as well. These courses can be taken for free or for Continuing Education credits for a fee. Visit our Online Courses section to see the list of available options.

If you or anyone you know are in the job market, the CDP headquarters has several open positions, including Cognitive Processing Therapy Trainer, Curriculum Development Coordinator for Military Programs, two Project Managers, and others. Head over to our Jobs section for a complete listing of open positions with the CDP.

Finally, this week’s Staff Voices column featured Dr. Regina Shillinglaw discussing her experience with Pet Therapy, an increasingly popular therapeutic option. As always, CDP’s in-house librarian Shirl Kennedy did a bang-up job of putting together a collection of interesting and informative items in this week’s Research Update. If you missed either of those pieces, take a few minutes to check them out.

That’s all for now. Have a great weekend and we’ll see you on Monday!
