CDP News: July 19, 2013

It’s the end of another week, which means it’s time for CDP News! As always, we like to use this space to take a look a recent and upcoming events in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology. First off this week, we’d like to thank all of the participants and presenters at this week’s University Counseling Center Core Competency session, which was held Tuesday in Irving, Texas. It was another great program and we couldn’t have done it without all your help.

This upcoming Wednesday, we’ll be headed to Fort Collins, CO to visit Colorado State University as part of the UC4-Extended program. This program builds upon the foundations created in the initial UC4 program by adding instruction in evidence-based therapies, such as Prolonged Exposure (PE) or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). It’s an excellent chance for those who have already attended one of our UC4 courses to expand upon their knowledge and expertise even more. To learn more about these programs or to see about bringing the UC4 to your local college or university, please visit the UC4 main page.

The next item of news is that next week we will be opening registration for our next iteration of our week-long training course. This time around we’re headed to San Diego in the fall. Keep an eye out here, our Facebook page, or on Twitter for more information when we open up registration for interested providers. If you’d like to learn more about this course, in general, please visit our Civilian Training section.

We’re all sad to bid farewell to a couple of members of the CDP family, Dr. Ted Bonar and Dr. Beda Jean-Francois are moving on. Both have been hugely influential in their time and the CDP and will be greatly missed by all of the staff here. On a brighter note, we’d like to welcome our newest hire, Mr. Marcus Jackson. He will be joining us as the Administrative Assistant for Military Programs. Welcome aboard, Marcus!

This week’s Staff Voices column was by Dr. Deb Nofziger as she took a look at “Return With Honor” one of the videos they show to psychology interns at Brooke Army Medical Center and why she feels it’s so very important. If you missed it, be sure to take a few minutes to check out our latest Research Update. As always, there’s tons of valuable and relevant information in there, complied by CDP’s own Shirl Kennedy.

That’s it for now, have a great weekend all!
