Great Lakes Regional 1-Week Civilian Training

Overview:

The Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP) is pleased to offer you a five-day training opportunity, Addressing the Psychological Health of Warriors and their Families, in Minneapolis from June 15 – 19.  This training is designed for non-military licensed mental health providers who treat military personnel, veterans and their families or plan to treat them in the near future.

While we recognize that many individuals may be interested in this course, the material is not designed for, and may not be appropriate for, non-mental health professionals and those who are not working with this population. Interested Active Duty mental health providers can contact the CDP to inquire about other workshops designed specifically for them.

This one-week course provides training on deployment-spectrum behavioral health concerns facing the military population. Workshop attendees will have the choice to attend one of two training tracks:

  • PTSD Track :   2-hour session on deployment-related sleep problems, and 2-day skills based training in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)
  • Health Psychology Track :   2-hour session on assessment and treatment of PTSD, and 2-day workshop on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)

Both tracks include sessions on:

  • Military culture and terminology
  • Deployment stressors
  • Depression and suicidal behavior
  • Military sexual assault
  • Military families
  • Substance abuse
  • Ethics
  • TBI

Although we recommend attending the full program, we recognize being away from the office for a week may be difficult for some providers.  Participants can attend individual sessions within their chosen track; however, they are required to stay within one track.

Please Note:  PE and CBT-I are two-day workshops and participants must attend both full days.  No partial credit will be granted for partial attendance.
