The week-long course provides training on deployment-spectrum behavioral health concerns facing the military population.

Training Cost: $95

Description:

This training is open to the public as a stand-alone course but also qualifies practitioners to participate in the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program. SBHP is a tier-based continuing education program offering CE credits to clinical professionals through up-to-date workshops focused on the unique needs of the military community. SBHP is offered in select states (i.e., CA, GA, IN, MI, NY, OH, & SC) to enhance behavioral health providers’ scope of knowledge and skills for treating military Service members, Veterans and their families with reintegration- and deployment-related concerns.

SBHP also provides a searchable, confidential registry of participating providers who have completed these varied tier levels so Service members, Veterans, and their families know they are entering a therapeutic relationship with a provider who elected to receive additional training to care for their unique needs.

Typically, SBHP workshops are scheduled such that providers attend each Tier independently. For this unique training the schedule has been consolidated so all three Tiers can be completed in a week. If you would like more information or have questions about the SBHP program please click here.

Regardless of whether you are an SBHP provider (or intend to apply to become one) or are a civilian who treats military and veterans, the content of the training is the same. Click on each tier below to learn about its content.

  • Tier One: provides an introduction to military culture and information about the deployment cycle. Open to all service providers and community members.
  • Tier Two: provides education about specific challenges and difficulties that are often associated with military service. Open to all service providers.
  • Tier Three: provides clinical skills that focus on evidence-based treatments to address some of the behavioral health issues facing service members, veterans and families. Only licensed mental health providers or those working in a clinical capacity under supervision are eligible to attend.
