CDP News: Feb. 6, 2015

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We’re well into February and going strong!

It was another busy week around here at CDP. First up, we spent all week running the latest iteration of our uniformed provider-oriented Topics in Deployment and Military Psychology course. This course brings military providers from all branches of the service to the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences here in Bethesda, MD for a five-days of intensive training. We’d like to thank all of our attendees, as well as our guest presenters for making this another successful event. It’s a lot of effort, but it is well-worth it for the great results.

Today is also the final day of our latest online Prolonged Exposure Therapy training. This two-day event was held via Second Life and includes participants from across the country, from the east coast all the way to Hawaii. It’s a great example of our efforts to leverage technology to expand the reach of our training events. If you’re interested in participating in our online training, registration is currently ongoing for our Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) via Adobe Connect. This one will be held from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST on 18-19 February. Registration for this two-day training is $30 and comes with 13.5 CEUs. This is a frequently requested topic and well over half of the spots are already filled. If you’d like to attend, we suggest signing up quickly.

If virtual training is not your thing and you’re looking for in-person events, check out our Southwest Regional Civilian 1-Week Training page.  The event will be held in Phoenix, AZ from 16-20 March, which is a beautiful time to visit Arizona. This week-long training includes tons of valuable training sessions and a choice of two tracks, the first is on PTSD treatment and the other focuses on health psychology and sleep disorders. For more information on this great training, you can click here to see the agenda. Registration is $95 and there are more than 30 CEUs available during the program. Seats are limited in this training.

If you’re interested in training on your own schedule, we suggest checking out the four-module Military Culture: Core Competencies for Healthcare Professionals. This self-paced online course is designed to help providers gain an understanding of the importance of and breadth of military culture. Each module in the course is eligible for two CEU credits upon completion of the final exam.

That’s all we’ve got for this time around.  We hope everyone has a great weekend and joins us back here next week for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” column.
