CDP News: July 15, 2016

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. While we didn’t have a lot of outside activity this week, we’re working hard on preparations for the second half of this year. We’ve got a lot of exciting events on the horizon!

Coming up next week is our latest monthly CDP Presents webinar on Tuesday from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern. The webinar is entitled “Use of Mobile Applications in Clinical Practice with Service Members and Veterans.” Dr. Erin Frick and Dr. Kevin Holloway will be leading this presentation. Registration for August’s CDPP will be opening soon as well. It will be on “Helping Military Couples Enhance Connection After Deployment” and will be led by Dr. April Thompson on 23 August.

We’ll also be holding our next online EBP training event next week. On Wednesday and Thursday, there will be a training on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) via Second LIfe. Registration closes today, so sign up quick if you’re interested in attending! After that, there will be a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) training on 17-18 August. Make sure you stay up to date on future events by visiting our training calendar or signing up for our online events mailing list.

However, you don’t have to wait until our next online training to enhance your skills and knowledge! Head over to the Learn Now section of the CDP’s website and you’ll find a wide variety of options to help expand your know-how. There’s everything from self-paced e-learning courses to recorded webinars to audio podcasts from CDP subject matter experts. It’s a great resource for providers. We’re always adding more content, so swing by and see what’s new!

This week in the CDP blog, our Staff Perspective column, entitled “New VA Suicide Prevention Efforts”, looked at a recently released fact sheet from the VA on Veteran suicides. The sheet has some sobering statistics about the rate of Veteran suicides. It also lists some of the new and expanded programs the VA has in place to help combat this issue. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.

That’s for this time around. Have a great weekend and enjoy the weather outside! We’ll see everyone next week for a new edition of our “By the Numbers” column.
