CDP News: Oct. 31, 2014

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events.  We’ve been busy in several avenues while also getting ready for Halloween!

We spend this week running our “Topics in Military and Deployment Psychology” course. This five-day training event always keeps us on our toes, but it’s great to bring together uniformed behavioral health providers from all branches of the military. Things went quite well and we’d like to thank all of our participants as well as our presenters, both CDP staff and our guest lecturers. For more information on this course, please visit the program’s page here.

That’s not all we were up to this week either! On Tuesday and Wednesday, we held an online Prolonged Exposure Training session through Adobe Connect. We had the largest group we’ve ever hosted in one of these online events. It was great to be able to reach out to these providers who wouldn’t otherwise be able to take part in our training. Due to the demand for these online training events, we’re going to hold another event in December. Keep a close eye on our training calendar. In the next few weeks, we may be opening up registration for a limited number of slots in our online PE training event in December.

Speaking of training events in December, we’ve got a few weeks left to sign up for our Southeast Regional Civilian 1-Week Training event. The event will be held 8-12 December in Miami, FL. We’re offering two educational tracks to choose from, one focusing on PTSD and one on overall health psychology.  For more information about the training or to register, head over to the 1-Week Training section of our website.

On Friday, our University Counseling Center Core Competency program visited the University of Baltimore to present our UC4 training. It’s a great training program, but we added another layer to it. As part of our continuing effort to expand the reach of our programs through technology, we held an online portion in the morning and broadcast the training out to providers across the country. It was a pilot program and wasn’t designed to replace the in-person version of the UC4 training, but many smaller schools may not have the numbers to bring our in-person training events out there, so it’s one option for helping out these locations. We learned a lot and hopefully we’ll be able to do it again in the near future with other locations. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, please contact our UC4 team here.

That’s it for this time around. Enjoy the weekend and have a happy Halloween everyone! We’ll see you back here next week for a new entry in the By the Numbers column.
