CDP News: Sept. 2, 2016

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We're getting ready for the long Labor Day weekend, but we've got some news to cover first, so let's get to it.

On Tuesday, we held our first online “refresher” course for Prolonged Exposure therapy training. We've got several more refresher courses on a variety of topics, including suicide prevention, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia. Participants do not have to have previously attended a CDP-led training, as long as they are aware these courses are not complete training  sessions.

If you are looking for a complete training session, registration is currently available for our next Online Prolonged Exposure (PE) training on 20-21 September. We are also holding a suicide prevention training on 12-13 October. Both of these events will be held via Second Life.  If you’d like to be notified when we open registration for future online events, just complete this form and we’ll email you with information about new events as they go live.

September is Suicide Prevention Month and our CDP Presents webinar for the month will focus on this topic. Dr. Craig Bryan will deliver a webinar on “Brief Interventions for Suicidal Military Personnel and Veterans”.

If you're interested in face-to-face events, we've got a great opportunity coming up in October. We'll be bringing our Regional Civilian 1-Week Training program to Denver, CO from 24-28 October. This five day event is the perfect chance for those looking to begin working with a military audience or for those who already do to increase their skills. Registration for this event is $95 and comes with 34 Continuing Education credits. Sign ups will close on 16 October, but space is limited and we will close registration once we reach our attendance cap. So if you're interested in attending this great event, we suggest you sign up soon!

This week in the CDP blog, our Staff Perspective column was by Dr. Dave Reynolds, entitled “An Update on Sleep Medicine”. In it, Dr. Reynolds reviews some of the most interesting abstracts that were presented at the recent 30th anniversary meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies. There are plenty of great topics included, so go take a look, if you haven't done so yet. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.

That’s all for this time around. We hope everyone enjoys the holiday weekend and joins us back here again next week as we head towards fall!
