The number of "eligible children of military personnel and certain civilian employees" who receive "some form of care" through DOD’s child development program worldwide, according to a recent report from the Congressional Research Service, FY2018 National Defense Authorization Act: Selected Military Personnel Issues.

This program, which provides subsidized childcare services operated on military installations, are "funded by a combination of appropriated and nonappropriated funds, meaning that they are partially a fee-generating activity. By statute the amount of appropriated funds used to operate CDC cannot be less than the estimated amount of child care fee receipts."
