(Participants with a .mil email address can contact Katie.medina.ctr@usuhs.edu to have this fee waived.) Please note the attendance requirements, refund and continuing education credit policies at the bottom of the page.

Description:
This two-day workshop provides training in the assessment and treatment of deployment related sleep disturbance with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), an evidence-based approach to treating sleep problems. It covers the rates and types of sleep problems identified in the military population, highlights current research findings on this topic, and reviews clinical strategies and interventions. The instructors teach skills for using Stimulus Control and Sleep Restriction to treat insomnia, and Imagery Rehearsal Therapy to address nightmares. Military case examples are incorporated to illustrate key concepts and techniques. Participants are expected to do role-plays in class to practice CBT-I techniques, and they must attend both days in full. For more information on the course content, please click here.

Attendance Requirements:
Participants will be required to have a Second Life account and install the Second Life viewer on their computer. Those who do not have a Second Life account can sign up and download the viewer here: http://secondlife.com/support/downloads/Click the gold "Join Now" at the top of the page to create an account and click the "Download the SL Viewer" button to get the Second Life viewer.

Participants who have not previously attended a CDP-led training in Second Life are also required to attend one of the pre-event "open houses" held online in Second Life. This is to ensure that participants can successfully log into Second Life, enter the training space, hear the presenter and speak with them via their computer's microphone. Participants will not need to attend for the entire "open house," just a portion of the two-hour window. Participants must attend this "open house" session from the computer and Internet connection they intend to use for the training. The "open house" windows are as follows:

  • Tuesday, 6 August, 7-9 p.m. (EASTERN)
  • Friday, 9 August, 12-2 p.m. (EASTERN)
  • Monday, 12 August, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. (EASTERN)
  • Thursday, 15 August, 2-4 p.m. (EASTERN)

Failure to attend one of the Open Houses will result in being disenrolled from the training.

If you participate in the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program and want to register for this online EBP workshop, please note that it will not qualify as an SBHP Tier 3. While you are welcome to attend the training, your participation will not be tracked by SBHP, nor listed on the SBHP registry.
