Course information

The Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP) is offering a two-day evidence-based workshop for Tri-Service military/DoD/GS behavioral health providers on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention online via Zoom, 29-20 November 2023, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Eastern. Attendance at both days is mandatory. The workshop is free. Space in this event is limited and registration will close once capacity is reached, even if this is before the final registration deadline.

This course will be held online via Zoom. Also, a functioning microphone is MANDATORY to attend, in order to participate in the role-play sessions. Headphones are also HIGHLY recommended to provide the optimal experience.

Description:
This two-day workshop provides training in the assessment and treatment of deployment related sleep disturbance with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), an evidence-based approach to treating sleep problems. It covers the rates and types of sleep problems identified in the military population, highlights current research findings on this topic, and reviews clinical strategies and interventions. The instructors teach skills for using Stimulus Control and Sleep Restriction to treat insomnia, and Imagery Rehearsal Therapy to address nightmares. Military case examples are incorporated to illustrate key concepts and techniques. Participants are expected to do role-plays in class to practice CBT-I techniques, and they must attend both days in full. For more information on the course content, please click here.

System Requirements:
This course will be presented via Zoom teleconferencing software. Participants will not have to install any additional programs on their computer to take part. However, a web browser is necessary. (Mac users are recommended to use the Chrome or Firefox browsers to minimize tech issues). Participants can test their computer's capabilities by clicking here (or visiting http://zoom.us/test).

We recommend all participants test their ability to load Zoom in advance of the event to ensure there are no technical difficulties. All participants must log in via an individual connection, rather than as a group using one machine. A headset/headphones are recommended.
A functioning microphone is also MANDATORY to attend this training, to allow for participation in role-play sessions.
