CDP Presents - Self-Empowering Addiction Treatment and Mutual Help via Zoom

16 December 2021, Noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern

Description: Although the 12-step powerlessness approach to addiction treatment and mutual help remains the dominant US model, the self-empowering approach is gaining acceptance. Despite substantial surface differences, these approaches have significant similarities. In this 90-minute webinar, the presenter will compare and contrast these approaches, and provide attendees with techniques and perspectives from the self-empowering approach that can be integrated into addiction work, whatever approach is used.

Please note: Space in this event is limited and registration will close once capacity has been reached, even if this is before the final registration date.

Target Audience: For behavioral health/healthcare providers who treat military personnel, veterans, and their families.

To access the course, on the day of the event, log into your account here: https://deploymentpsych.ce21.com/Account/MyAccount and click on the green "Launch Webinar" button.

For a brief overview of the presentation, check out the Bottom Line, Up Front (B.L.U.F.) below!

Learning Objectives:

After this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Differentiate between the 12-step powerlessness approach and the self-empowering approach to addiction treatment.
  2. Develop strategies for integrating techniques and perspectives from the self-empowering approach into addiction assessment and treatment.

System Requirements:
This course will be presented via Zoom teleconferencing software. Zoom is browser-based, however an add-in may need to be installed before attending. Participants can test their computer's capabilities by clicking here (or visiting https://zoom.us/test). We recommend those using Internet connections on government or military locations test their ability to load Zoom in advance of the event to ensure there are no technical difficulties. Microphones and webcams are not necessary, but you will need a computer with working speakers or headphones. If you encounter connection difficulties when using your computer, the Zoom app is also available for iOS and Android devices.
