Stephanie Dorais, Ph.D
Stephanie Dorais, Ph.D., is a Licensed Professional Counselor serving as a Military Behavioral Health Counselor with the Henry M. Jackson Foundation in collaboration with the Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. In this role, she supports the development, evaluation, and dissemination of evidence-informed behavioral health resources for military-connected populations, with a focus on suicide prevention, trauma-informed care, and clinician training.
Dr. Dorais earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from William & Mary, her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regent University, and her B.S. in Statistics and Operations Research from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Prior to joining the CDP, she served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of School Psychology and Counselor Education at William & Mary and previously as an Assistant Professor of Counselor Education at Kean University.
Dr. Dorais’s research integrates behavioral science and clinical practice, with particular attention to resilience, hope, mindfulness, and decision-making under stress. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has served as a co-investigator on federally and foundation-funded projects examining meditation, longitudinal mental health outcomes, and spiritually integrated interventions. Her work frequently bridges clinical care and systems-level training, with implications for military, veteran, and healthcare populations.
Clinically, Dr. Dorais has worked across diverse settings including military populations, community mental health, university counseling centers, and private practice, providing care for individuals experiencing trauma, addiction, and complex mental health concerns. She is licensed in Virginia and New York. Dr. Dorais brings a practitioner-scholar perspective to her work at CDP, combining rigorous quantitative training with deep clinical experience to support military behavioral health providers and the communities they serve.
