SBHP Military Behavioral Health Licensed ProfessionalHJF is seeking a Military Behavioral Health Licensed Professional to support the Center for Deployment Psychology’s SBHP program. The incumbent will perform a variety of activities as a trainer and mental health specialist. This is a remote position.  

This position will be in support of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences’ Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP), which is based in Bethesda, MD. The Licensed Military Behavioral Health Provider will assist with activities related to CDP’s mission, which is to lead the development of a community of culturally mindful and clinically competent providers through the delivery of high-quality training and education, the convening of experts, and the dissemination of research-based treatment and the latest topics in military behavioral health. CDP strives to be the central hub for the Military Health System (MHS) in the development and implementation of training and education to clinicians in order to ensure that all service members, veterans, and their families receive quality behavioral healthcare that meets their unique needs. The Licensed Behavioral Health Professional will contribute to the national expansion of Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program, a training and referral program that is building a network of civilian community mental health providers across the 54 U.S. states and territories and an online therapist directory to support the military population, with an emphasis on National Guard (NG) members. Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) provides administrative and management support to the Center.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivering online and in-person training on military culture, military mental health conditions and other service related topics which includes developing and updating presentations and training materials based on the literature.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert in military behavioral health issues including the ability to integrate the best available research with clinical expertise in the context of patient characteristics, culture, and preferences, such that the candidate is able to provide training and consultation that is empirically sound as well as culturally competent, inclusive and accessible across a wide variety of contexts.
  • Interacting closely with National Guard (NG) state behavioral health teams virtually and in-person to promote adoption of SBHP and use of the therapist directory for referring airmen and soldiers.
  • Representing SBHP virtually and in person at state and national military and civilian conferences and planning events for stakeholders to raise SBHP’s national profile.
  • Designing and implementing outreach strategies and creating resources for building a community of SBHP practitioners and connecting them with NG behavioral health officers.
  • Collaborating closely with key stakeholders and partners such as the National Guard Bureau (NGB) and Military Family Research Institute (MFRI) at Purdue University to evaluate, enhance, and elevate SBHP and ensure its success.
  • Serving as an active member/lead on team projects and assisting with programming, strategic communications, metrics, and efficiencies.
  • Contributes to CDP’s subject matter expert blog posts, podcasts, videos, infographics, asynchronous training materials, and other additional educational activities as needed. Prepares scholarly manuscripts for publication and presents at national and/or international conferences to disseminate the work conducted by the Center.

May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience delivering professional presentations to adult learners including:
  • Experience with curriculum development of presentations and other materials for adult continuing education.
  • An ability to engage mental health professionals with different experience levels, respond to questions, and convey points clearly.
  • Knowledge of the military population and military behavioral health issues and is a champion of DoD-approved evidence-based psychotherapies.
  • Knowledge of the Reserve Component as well as NG practices and policies related to behavioral health care is preferred.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to write professional correspondence, educational and marketing materials, and reports, as well as to provide briefings and updates to internal and external partners including the NGB and NG state teams.
  • Clinical experience providing mental health services to adult clients.
  • An active clinical license to practice within the US.

Project Manager IIHJF is seeking a Project Manager II to drive successful completion of key deliverables and stated objectives for a single project or multiple non-integrated projects by coordinating and monitoring the status of work performed by technical staff. Applicants must possess the ability to provide customer service in a culturally sensitive, accessible, and inclusive manner that demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

This position will be in support of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences’ Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP), which is based in Rockville, MD. The Project Manager II assists with activities related to CDP’s mission, which is to lead the development of a community of culturally mindful and clinically competent providers through the delivery of high-quality training and education, the convening of experts, and the dissemination of research-based treatment and the latest topics in military behavioral health. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) provides administrative and management support to CDP. The CDP envisions a future in which all service members, veterans, and their families receive quality behavioral healthcare that meets their unique needs. We aim to achieve this vision through efforts to train military and civilian behavioral health providers to provide high quality deployment-related behavioral health services to military personnel and their families.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage operational elements of projects as assigned. Document project scope and plan, confirming objectives, technologies, schedules, milestones and deadlines, funding, and available resources with key stakeholders. Track progress toward completion of deliverables. Produce and distribute project status reports and documents.
  • Oversee all training curriculum updates and finalize all training materials. Identify trainers and consultants and coordinate and finalize all pre, during, and post training logistics for each training event (online and in-person) including developing outreach messages and flyers and helping to implement email, direct mail and social media campaigns to recruit providers. Monitor administrative staff's work on tracking training registrations and attendance and issuance and dissemination of CE certificates. Coordinate faculty participation at military and civilian conferences to raise awareness of CDP programs.
  • Communicate and collaborate with others, including but not limited to project team members, management and other key internal and external stakeholders about project requirements and objectives. Document and evaluate existing processes, procedures and guidelines making recommendations for enhancements and improvements as appropriate. Obtain approval for out-of-scope modifications.
  • Monitor project costs incurred. Prepare and maintain project budget and related reports.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, work well with others, identify and resolve problems, and deliver results as a team

Postdoctoral FellowHJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support the Center for Deployment Psychology’s research portfolio including studies related to sleep and suicide ideation in military connected individuals. This position will be responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with CDP’s research team.

This position will be in support of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences’ Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP), which is based in Bethesda, MD. The Postdoctoral Fellow will assist with activities related to CDP’s mission, which is to lead the development of a community of culturally mindful and clinically competent providers through the delivery of high-quality training and education, the convening of experts, and the dissemination of research-based treatment and the latest topics in military behavioral health. CDP’s research broadly focuses on military mental health with projects supporting the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based psychotherapies, health services research to improve clinic processes and patient care, and patient focused research seeking to increase our understanding of the correlates, precipitants, and consequences of mental health disorders such as PTSD, insomnia, nightmares, and suicide ideation. Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) provides administrative and management support to the Center. CDP strives to be the central hub for the Military Health System (MHS) in the development and implementation of training and education to clinicians in order to ensure that all service members, veterans, and their families receive quality behavioral healthcare that meets their unique needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage elements of ongoing projects, ensuring compliance with good practice in relation to the conduct of research, and institutional ethics policies. Maintains effective and timely communication with scientific collaborators; serves as a representative of the Center and in this capacity, demonstrates strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Undertake high quality research and scholarship, including contributing to drafting major grant proposals and/or leading on drafting smaller grant proposals related to military mental health.
  • Develops and authors scientific reports for scholarly dissemination at professional meetings and in peer-reviewed publications. Furthers the CDP mission’s by contributing to blogs, podcasts, and/or white papers.
  • Applicants must possess the ability to provide behavioral subject matter expertise that is culturally sensitive in a manner that is accessible and inclusive which demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of research design and methodology
  • Knowledge of a broad range of behavioral health and public health research including but not limited to clinical trials methodology; suicide prevention research; suicide prevention assessment tools; cognitive behavior therapy, insomnia and sleep disorders research and treatments, and PTSD research and evidence-based treatments.
  • Excellent general communication skills including writing appropriate reports, articles, white papers, and providing presentations to large audiences.
  • Experience conducting statistical analyses in SPSS, Stata, or other statistical software
  • 1-2 first author publications and previous contributions to written output, preferably peer-reviewed
  • Proven ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively as part of a research team, and proven ability to meet research deadlines
  • Evidence of good organizational skills, including effective time management
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check
