Course information

The Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP) is offering a two-day evidence-based workshop on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for behavioral health providers working with service members and veterans.  The workshop will be held online via Zoom, 16-17 April 2025, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern. Registration for the course is $45. (Participants with a .mil email address can contact william.tiwari.ctr@usuhs.edu to have this fee waived.)

Please note the refund and Continuing Education policies at the bottom of the page. Space in this event is limited and registration will close when capacity is reached, even if this is before the final registration deadline.

Also, a functioning microphone is MANDATORY to attend, in order to participate in the role-play sessions. Headphones are also HIGHLY recommended to provide the optimal experience.

Description:
This workshop will be highly experiential with a focus on helping participants practice and build skills that they can readily integrate into their work with military clients. It’s designed to give participants a strong foundation in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) theory and practice. The workshop is ideal for beginning practitioners new to the model as well as those already practicing ACT at an intermediate level who want to broaden their repertoire.

Over the course of two days, we will work with participants to assess psychological problems using the Psychological Flexibility model, learn and practice skills relevant to each of the six core psychological flexibility processes, use the ACT skills to help clients differentiate between ineffective and meaningful actions, and to identify and address key indicators of psychological inflexibility.

In addition, the training will explore the ways in which language and metaphor influence behavior and can be used in therapy to help change behavior. We will use experiential exercises, small group work and dyad work to encourage participants to practice and enhance new skills.

System Requirements: This course will be presented via Zoom teleconferencing software. Participants will not have to install any additional programs on their computer to take part. However, a web browser is necessary. (Mac users are recommended to use the Chrome or Firefox browsers to minimize tech issues). Participants can test their computer's capabilities by clicking here (or visiting http://zoom.us/test). We recommend all participants test their ability to load Zoom in advance of the event to ensure there are no technical difficulties. All participants must log in via an individual connection, rather than as a group using one machine. A headset/headphones are recommended.
A functioning microphone is also MANDATORY to attend this training, to allow for participation in role-play sessions.

Please note that role play participation is an attendance requirement for this workshop to receive credit. Logging out deliberately or lack of participation during role plays will count against attendance. If you are unable to participate, or prefer to observe, please let us know, and we will accommodate as needed.

Participants are required to attend the entire training. Partial credits cannot be issued. This training contains non-instructional time of one hour for lunch and two 15-minute breaks each day. Attendance is taken through the use of electronic logs, and a post-training evaluation form must be completed in order to receive ACE social work CE credits.

For other CE credits, completion of the evaluation is strongly encouraged, but if you do not wish to complete the evaluation, please contact the training event's POC after the training event. There is a 30-day time limit post-training to complete all CE requirements. There is a 30-day time limit post-training to complete all CE requirements. CE Credit Certificates will be emailed to qualifying participants within 30 days of the workshop completion date.
