The percentage of "currently serving military family respondents" who "have less than $500 in emergency savings or no emergency fund at all," according to a recently released report from the Military Family Advisory Network's Military Family Support Programming Survey on Finances and Emergency Savings. This data includes Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard families.
 
According to an active duty Marine Corps spouse, "Having three kids. If they aren’t wearing the money, they are eating it."
 
For Veteran families without a military pension, the situation is more dire; 49.2% of respondents report having less than $500 in emergency savings or no emergency fund. For military retiree families (with a military pension), the percentage is 22.2%.
