CDP News: 12 January 2018
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We're getting ready for the long weekend coming up, but we've got plenty to talk about first.
Today is the final day to register for the Suicide Prevention via Second Life on 18-19 January training. Registration is also currently available for two other EBP training sessions Prolonged Exposure therapy (PE) training in Second Life on 30-31 January and the 15-16 February Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) in Second Life. Registration for each of these event is $45 and comes with 13.5 CE credits. All our currently scheduled events can be found on our upcoming training calendar. If you would like to be notified by email of upcoming online events, you can also sign up by completing the form here.
In addition to our two-day EBP training events, we've also kicked off the 2018 Couples Webinar Series. The series will consist of three topics, "Military and Veteran Couples: Element of the Assessment Process," "Military and Veteran Couples: Evidence-Based Approaches to Treatment," and "An Intervention Model for Working with Military Couples Who Have Experienced Infidelity." These two-hour courses will be held multiple times over the next few months. Each course stands alone and participants can take one or all three, depending on their interest. Each course also comes with two CE credits and registration for each is only $10.00. For more information or to register, head over to the CWS section of our website. The next session will be "Military and Veteran Couples: Evidence-based Approaches to Treatment" on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 p.m. Eastern.
Speaking of webinars, our first "CDP Presents" of 2018 will be “Mindfulness in Evidence-Based Practice.” This webinar will discuss the concept of mindfulness, briefly review the literature on its use, and describe the ways to incorporate mindfulness as part of evidence-based practice. This event will be held on 25 January and led by Dr. Ariel Lang, in collaboration with the Cohen Veterans Network. As with most of our CDP Presents webinars, participants who register, attend and successfully complete a post-training survey/knowledge evaluation will be eligible to receive one free CE. You can also watch recordings of any of our previous CDP Presents events on our website here.
Due to all of the great applications we've been receiving, we've extended the application period for the 2018 iteration of the "Summer Institute: Preparing for a Career in the Armed Forces" program. Applications will now be accepted through 29 January. If you're interested in learning more about the Summer Institute, this week's blog features an entry from Tawanna Howard, who describes her experiences attending the program in 2016. Also, as always, don't forget to check out this week's Research Update, with the latest news, journal articles, and useful links from around the Web.
Okay, that's all for this time around. We hope everyone has a great holiday weekend. We'll see you next week!
