CDP News: 15 February 2019

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We're already halfway through February and we've still got lots of events this month.

Tuesday evening we continued the CDP Couples Webinar Series, with “Military and Veteran Couples: Evidence-Based Approaches to Treatment”. This was the second in a series of four two-hour webinars, which are being held from 7-9 p.m. Eastern every Tuesday in February. Next Tuesday's session will be Military-Connected Couples: An Intervention Model for Treating Infidelity,” and then we'll wrap the series up with “Intimate Partner Violence: An Overview of Assessment and Response with Military-Connected Clients” on 26 February. While registration is closed for this iteration, we will be presenting another run of all four webinars on 14 May. For more information about any of the webinars, you can visit the CWS page here

Then on Wednesday, we will hold February's CDP Presents webinar. This month's topic will be "Tobacco Control in the Air Force - Trends and Treatment." This 90-minute webinar will discuss how changes in current trends create new challenges for behavioral health clinicians in reducing the burden of tobacco use on readiness and the health of the force. Clinical best practices to increase engagement and tobacco cessation will also be discussed. While you're there, you can also sign up for the 14 March CDP Presents event "The Basics of Sleep: What Every Provider Needs to Know" as well. Participants in these webinars who register, attend, and complete a post-training survey/evaulation will be eligible to receive one free CE. Make sure you take a look at the CE details for these events, as they're a bit different from those in previous iterations.

Also coming up in March, registration is available for Online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) via Zoom, which will be held on 28-29 March, Registration is $45 and comes with 13.5 CEs. Please note, as with the CDP Presents webinars, the CE policy for this event has been updated.

This week's Staff Perspective is by April Thompson, entitled "Pondering the Impact of Dynamic Force Employment on Navy Couples - Managing Relationships During Times of Uncertainty." Military couples are always under unique pressures, but "Dynamic Force Employment" can make these challenges even more difficult. This entry examines DFE and other impacts on military couples. Also, don't forget to check out this week's Research Update. As always, it's packed with the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.

With that, we'll wrap up this week's edition of CDP News. Monday is a President's Day, so we hope everyone has a good extended weekend! We'll see you next week with more updates and info.
