CDP News: 20 April 2018
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We’re in the home stretch of April and we’ve got some great events next week.
First up, on Wednesday, we’ll be holding our latest CDP Presents webinar, entitled "Sleep Disorder Care in the Military". It will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern. It will feature a panel of civilian and military sleep experts explaining the role and treatment services of different disciplines in the management of sleep disorders in the military, discussing the state of the research regarding behavioral treatments for insomnia such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy of Insomnia (CBTI) and Brief Behavioral Treatment of Insomnia (BBTI). As with most of our CDP Presents events, participants who register and successfully complete a post-training survey/knowledge evaluation will be eligible to receive one free CE.
Also coming up next week, we’ll be offering a new training event on Thursday and Friday, Brief Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia via Adobe Connect. This 1.5 day workshop provides introductory training in the brief assessment and treatment of Insomnia Disorder within a military primary care setting. Registration for this event is $35 and participants are eligible to receive 10.5 CEs. Next month, we'll be presenting a Prolonged Exposure (PE) Training via Second Life on 15-16 May. Registration is $45 and comes with 13.5 CE credits. All our currently scheduled events can be found on our upcoming training calendar. If you would like to be notified by email of upcoming online events, you can also sign up by completing the form here.
We’re also excited to present a series of webinars in May, “Forces for Health: Warrior Wednesday”. The goal of the series is to bring healthcare disciplines together to discuss culturally-informed, multi-disciplinary care and wellness for our Armed Forces members and Veterans across the lifespan. For more information or to register, please click here.
If you haven’t already, be sure to head over to our Sleep Spotlight page. We’ve put together a chunk of content around sleep and sleep issues. This content includes a series of infographics, blog entries, videos, and more. We’ll be adding more content as the month goes on, so be sure to check it out several times all month long.
Over on the CDP Blog, this week’s Staff Perspective is “The Role of Primary Care Provider Attitudes in Disseminating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).” In it, Diana Dolan discusses how behavioral health providers aren’t the only ones important in ensuring Service members and Veterans receive effective care for insomnia. Also, as always, don’t forget to check out this week's Research Update, with the latest news, journal articles, and useful links from around the Web.
That’s it for this time around. Have a great weekend everyone and we’ll see you on Monday for a new “By the Numbers”!
