Staff Perspective - Lady Valor: The Kristen Beck Story (2014)

If you are local to the D.C. area, you may have recently read an article in the Washington Post about Kristen Beck. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this name, Kristen Beck is the first transgender Navy Seal to share her story via film. Previously known as Christopher, completing 13 deployments and earning commendations, including a Bronze Star, as well as a Purple Heart, Christopher was a force to be reckoned with. This powerful documentary describes her life as Christopher and how she came to be known as Kristen.

The percentage of post-9/11 Veterans who are younger than age 34, according to a recent report by the VA's National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics -- Profile of Post-9/11 Veterans: 2012 (PDF). The median age of post-9/11 male Veterans is 32, according to the report, and the median age of post-9/11 female Veterans is 31. For all other Veterans, the median age is 64 for males and 53 for females.

Staff Perspective - Book review: Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs

Most of us give presentations every day. It might not be a formal presentation in front of a large audience, but even a short discussion with a co-worker, friend or client can be a presentation. All of these represent an exchange of information with other parties. In an age of information, it is imperative to understand how to communicate your message. This is why I was excited to read “The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs” by Carmine Gallo.
