CDP News: Jan. 17, 2014

Welcome to the latest edition of CDP News! We like to take a few minutes each Friday to look back at recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We’d like to start this week off by showcasing our latest addition to the website, the PE Session Notes. These are a series of brief videos intended to provide a quick refresher of the agenda for each session in Prolonged Exposure.

While these videos aren’t intended to replace a full PE training, they can serve as just-in-time reviews for providers who have attended a training and would like a reminder of what they’d previously learned. We’ve currently got the first three session available. We’ll be adding ones covering “hot spots” and the final PE session as well.

We also held a pilot training event online in the use of CPT in group settings. Laura Copland, our Senior PTSD Treatment Trainer here at CDP, led the half-day training for providers at locations across the country (and thanks to two participants who connected from Okinawa, Japan) literally across the world! It was very well received from most participants and we look forward to doing more training in the fashion going forward, so keep an eye on our training schedule to see what opportunities are available.

This week’s Staff Perspective featured Dr. Mary Brinkmeyer taking a look at Parent-Child Interaction Therapy and discussing it with Dr. Robin Gurwitch, who has been leading an effort to bring PCIT to military families and installations. As always, the Research Update was well worth a look. It’s got all the latest relevant journal articles, news and useful links from around the web.

We’d also like to formally welcome Dr. Andrew Davidson, who is joining the team as the JIF Champion Consultant at Camp Lejune, NC, and Dr. Eric Kloeppel, who is going to be the JIF Champion at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, CA. They will both be tasked with advocating for the use of evidence-based psychotherapies, as well as providing EBP consultations for PTSD at their locations. Welcome aboard, gentlemen!

That’s all for this time around. Have a great holiday weekend everyone and we’ll see you next week!
