CDP News: June 6, 2014
Welcome to June and this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Summer is heating up around here, but that’s not slowing us down any!
We’re kicking off our Central Plains Regional 1-Week Civilian Training event on Monday in St. Louis, MO. This event will offer five days of training on a variety of behavioral health related topics, including instruction on the use of specific evidence-based psychotherapies. It’s a great opportunity for providers to heighten their skills and even pick up a few new ones! Though advanced registration has closed for this event, if you’re interested in attending, there still may be room. For more information about possible on-site registration, please contact Chris Myers at cmyers@deploymentpsych.org.
If you’re interested in our 1-week training, but can’t make it to St. Louis, fear not. Registration for our Pacific Northwest Regional event will be opening up in the next few days. The event will be held in Portland, OR 15-19 September, 2014. So keep an eye on our training calendar and sign up quick.
For those who want to stay close to home, we’re offering an online training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) via Adobe Connect on 10-11 July. We’ll also be adding an online Prolonged Exposure (PE) training via Second Life to our schedule in late August.
Next up, we’d like to officially welcome Dr. Theresa Mattison and Dr. Timothy Rogers to the CDP team. They both join us as Deployment Behavioral Health Psychologists. Dr. Mattison will be at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, while Dr. Rogers will be at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. Welcome aboard, both of you! In this week’s Staff Perspective column, Dr. Augusto Ruiz takes a look at the powerful novel, “Gifts of the Heart.” Written by a Navy surgeon, Dr. Hassan A. Tettah, who draws on real life experiences to detail how a medical provider sustains himself during and after being deployed to Afghanistan. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest journal articles, relevant news and useful links from all around the Web.
