The percentage of women in a sample of 1,700 "current-era veterans" (346 women and 1,354 men) who had received a diagnosis of major depressive disorder at some point during their lifetimes (MDD-L), according to a recent study in the Journal of Affective Disorders -- Lifetime major depression and comorbid disorders among current-era women veterans.

Among the male veterans, the MDD-L prevalence was 10+ points lower, at 36.3%. For the group as a whole, the percentage of those with MDD-L was 38.4%

According to the researchers, "Gender differences in comorbidity were found for anxiety and eating disorders (more common in women); and for alcohol and nicotine use disorders (more common in men)."
