CDP News: June 19, 2015
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It’s already been a busy summer and we’ve got lots more events coming up!
First up, this week we were in Minneapolis, MN for our Regional 1-Week Civilian Training program. It was a very successful event and, as always, it was great to get to meet all the providers in person. If you were unable to attend, don’t worry. Now that we’ve completed this one, it’s time to start work on our next regional event. This time we’ll be headed to the northeast, specifically, the Albany, NY metro-area from 26-30 October. Registration for this event will open in early July. So keep an eye out for it.
Next week we’ll be headed to San Diego, CA and New Paltz, NY, as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers program. For more details about the SBHP program and the tiers of training, you can head to our SBHP webpage here.
On Thursday, we visited Faulkner University in Montgomery, AL for our University Counseling Center Core Competency program. Next Thursday, we’ll be presenting the UC4 at Southeast Missouri State University. For more information on the UC4 program or to find out how to bring it to your local college or university, please visit the UC4 section of our website here.
Also on Thursday, we held our latest webinar, entitled “The Assessment and Management of Anger in Service Members.” It was presented by Dr. Arthur Asatoorian. We’ll be posting a recording of the event for on-demand viewing next week. If you’re interested in participating in the live version, our next webinar will be 28 July on women in the military. Registration for this event is live and can be found here.
Speaking of online events, the next online training available for registration is CPT via Second Life on 1-2 July. This training is filling up fast and will most likely reach capacity soon, so if you’re interested in taking part, please sign up today. If you’d like to be emailed when registration for our online events begins, you can sign up for our online events email list here.
Finally, over in the CDP Blog, this week’s Staff Perspective entry was by Dr. Michael Jones, who talked about the use of Stellate Ganglian blocks in treating PTSD. It’s a relatively new technique with promise, but it’s still being researched to determine the long-term effectiveness. Also, don’t forget to take a few minutes to read this week’s Research Update on the CDP’s Blog. It’s got all the latest news, articles and plenty of useful links related to deployment psychology.
That’s it for this time around. We’ll see you back here next with a new entry in our “By the Numbers” series. Have a great weekend everyone!
