The percentage of federal government workers in the Executive Branch who are Veterans, according to a report released in July by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management -- Employment of Veterans in the Federal Executive Branch Fiscal Year 2014 (PDF).
The good news: A Washington Post story about the report indicated that last year, nearly half of federal government new full-time hires were Veterans.
On the other hand, according to the Post:
The bad news is that once veterans get into government, they don’t stay long. They’re more likely to leave their jobs within two years than non-veterans, the Office of Personnel Management reports, even if they’ve transferred from other federal agencies.
According to Joseph Sharpe, director of veterans employment and education for the American Legion, who is quoted in the article, “Federal agencies hire them, but where they’re placed and into what job is not always the best fit."
