CDP News: Mar. 4, 2016
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. March is shaping up to be one busy month!
First, up registration is ongoing for our upcoming Regional Civilian One-Week Training to be held 4-8 April in Des Moines, IA. Seats are limited at this event and they’re filling up fast, so if you’re interested, we suggest registering soon! Our March event sold out and we anticipate this one doing the same. We’ve got a few more Regional Civilian One-Week Training events coming up this year also. We’ll be headed to Boise, ID 16-20 May. If you’d like to be notified when registration for this event begins, please complete the form here.
Next Friday is the last day to sign up for the Military and Veteran Behavioral Health Post-Master’s Certificate Program, which kicks off on the weekend of 11-12 March. This event is held over three weekends in conjunction with Widener University in Exton, PA. The 10 training sessions cover a variety of topics designed to address the emotional and psychological struggles of Service members and Veterans. Those who complete the training will receive a certificate directly from Widener University. For more information or to register for this event, please click here.
Next Wednesday and Thursday, we’ll be headed down to Savannah, GA to present a training as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program. For more information on this program or to find out how you can participate, head over to the SBHP section of our website.
In addition to our face-to-face events, we’ve got some online events coming up soon as well. On Tuesday, we’ll be holding a training on Cognitive Processing Therapy in Group (CPT-G) via Adobe Connect. If you’re interested in the main Cognitive Processing Therapy training, there will be a CPT event in Second Life 23-24 March. We’ve also recently opened up registration for a Prolonged Exposure training in Second Life to be held 14-15 April.
In the CDP Blog this week, Dr. Paula Domenici examined homelessness among female Veterans. She discussed some of the statistics, as well as the risk factors that contribute to the prevalence of homelessness in this population. The Guest Perspective blog, “Moral Injury and Moral Repair”, was by Dr. Amy Amidon. In it, Dr. Amidon talks about the concept of moral injury, including various causes and her experiences with the treatment process. Also, don’t forget to check out the Research Update as usual, it’s got all the latest news, articles, and useful links related to deployment psychology.
That’s all for this time around. We hope everyone has a great weekend. Come back next week for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” feature!
