The unintended pregnancy rate among active-duty women in the United States military, according to an article in the December 2015 issue of the journal Contraception -- Unintended pregnancy among active-duty women in the United States military, 2011.
The researchers used data from the 2011 Department of Defense Health Related Behaviors Survey of Active Duty Military Personnel, in which 9,038 women provided information on unintended pregnancy. Married women, enlisted women, and women in the Navy and Marine Corps had higher rates of unintended pregnancy than did women in the Air Force, according to the study.
Unintended pregnancy rates did not differ between women who were deployed in the previous 12 months and nondeployed women. Additionally, 10% of women who were deployed for 11-12 months in 2011 reported an unintended pregnancy in the previous year, suggesting that their pregnancies occurred during deployment.
The unintended pregnancy rate among the general U.S. population is 52/1000, the study said.
