By the Numbers - 19 June 2017
4.3 % and 0.6 %
The percentages, respectively, of female and male Service members who said they had experienced sexual assault in the year prior to the 2016 "force-wide survey," according to the recently released FY 2016 Annual Report on Sexual Assault in the Military.
These numbers show a decrease from FY 2015, when 4.9 percent of women and 0.9 percent of men said they'd been sexually assaulted. Reporting of sexual assault incidents in the military has increased dramatically. In the FY 2016 survey, roughly one in three victims reported their assaults; 10 years ago, it was just one in 14.
