CDP News: June 23, 2017
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We’re already into the final week of June and summer is underway.
Our biggest event this week was the 2017 iteration of the CDP’s Summer Institute: Preparing for a Military-Focused Career at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU). We’ve been looking forward to this event for months now and were very excited to meet all of this year’s participants. The past two iterations have been very successful at preparing participants for their future military internship programs. It was another exceptional week for both our presenters and participants as well. We’ll be posting a full summary and more details about this week’s activities soon!
That wasn’t the only face-to-face training event we held this week either. On Tuesday and Wednesday, our trainers were out in Medford, OR as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program, Then on Wednesday and Thursday, we had a suicide prevention training in Rockville, MD. Finally, on Thursday and Friday, we held a Speakers Bureau event on Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) at Baylor University in Waco, TX. Whew! Then next week, on Monday and Tuesday, we’ll be back in Oregon, this time in Bend for another SBHP event as well.
In the online realm, next Thursday, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern, we will hold our next CDP Presents webinar “Challenges to Evidence-Based Practice in Treating PTSD: Practical Solutions”. This panel presentation will examine some of the common hurdles that prevent implementation of EBPs and provide a few practical solutions for these issues. Registration is also available for July’s evente “Moral Injury Recognition and Care” presented by William Nash, M.D. As with most of our CDP Presents events, everyone who registers, attends, and successfully completes a brief post-training survey/evaluation will be eligible to receive one free CE.
Our next EBP training will be 25-26 July on Prolonged Exposure Therapy. Registration for this two-day event is $45 and comes with 13.5 CE credits for a variety of disciplines. If you’d like to be notified via email when registration begins for future online training events please complete the form here.
This week’s Staff Perspective was entitled “Behaviorism Saves the Day”. In it, Dr. Andy Santanello talks about the importance of staying positive and trusting in one’s self, as well as clients. It’s a very uplifting entry. If nothing else, it’s got some cute dog pictures in it, so give it a read if you haven’t already. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.
That’s a wrap for this time around. We hope everyone’s summer is off to a great start! Don’t forget to come back next week for a brand-new entry in our “By The Numbers” column.
