CDP News: 22 December 2017
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Winter is officially here and now the holidays are just around the corner.
We've wrapped up all our events for this year, but we'll have plenty of training opportunities in the new year. Our next online EBP event will be Suicide Prevention via Second Life on 18-19 January. Registration for this event is $45 and comes with 13.5 CE credits. All our currently scheduled events can be found on our upcoming training calendar. If you would like to be notified when registration begins for any upcoming online event, you can sign up by completing the form here.
In addition to our two-day EBP training events, our monthly "CDP Presents" webinar series is already scheduled for 2018. First up will be “Mindfulness in Evidence-Based Practice.” This webinar will discuss the concept of mindfulness, briefly review the literature on its use, and describe the ways to incorporate mindfulness as part of evidence-based practice. This event will be held on 25 January and led by Dr. Ariel Lang, in collaboration with the Cohen Veterans Network. As with most of our CDP Presents webinars, participants who register, attend and successfully complete a post-training survey/knowledge evaluation will be eligible to receive one free CE. We had multiple great entries on our blog. The first was by Joshua Camins. He discussed his experiences with attending The Summer Institute this year in his piece, "Soldier or Psychologist: Why Not Both?" It's nice to have a first-hand perspective of what the program is like and how participants can benefit from attending. Then for more information about The Summer Institute, Libby Parins and Paula Domenici recorded a video of their conversation about some of the most commonly asked questions about the program. Some of the topics covered included the mission and focus, cost, dates, how the program has evolved, who is eligible and much more! Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s CDP Research Update! As always, it's packed with all the latest news, journal articles, and useful links from around the Web. There won't be a Research Update next week, due to the holiday, but we'll be back and better than ever in 2018.
