CDP News: 2 February 2018
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It’s a new month and we’ve got lots of new events to talk about.
We held another online Prolonged Exposure training on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Next Friday is the final day to register for 15-16 February Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) in Second Life. It’s getting close to capacity, so if you’re interested in attending, we suggest signing up soon! Registration is $45 and comes with 13.5 CE credits. Next week we will also be opening up registration for the online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) on 14-15 March. All our currently scheduled events can be found on our upcoming training calendar. Speaking of upcoming online events, the next round of the CDP 2018 Couples Webinar Series will begin on 13 February with "Military and Veteran Couples: Element of the Assessment Process," followed by "Military and Veteran Couples: Evidence-Based Approaches to Treatment" on 20 February, and “An Intervention Model for Working with Military Couples Who have Experienced Infidelity” on 27 February. Each course stands alone and participants can take one or all three, depending on their interest. Each course also comes with two CE credits and registration for each is only $10.00. Despite all of our online efforts, we’re still working hard in the traditional medium of face-to-face training as well. We were in Indianapolis, IN on Tuesday and Wednesday as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers program. Next week we’re headed to both Oregon and Ohio for more SBHP events. SBHP is a tier-based continuing education program offering CEs to clinical professionals through up-to-date workshops focused on the unique needs of the military community at no cost. Over on the CDP Blog, in “Who Makes the Decisions Around Here?” Sharon Birman discussed the use of Shared Decision Making (SDM) as an element of Evidence-Based Practice in Psychotherapy (EBPP). SDM is a process whereby treatment decisions are made collaboratively through dialogue, deliberation, and agreement.
