CDP News: 23 February 2018
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It was a short week, due to the holiday, but we’ve still got lots to cover.
On Tuesday, we held another session in the 2018 Couples Webinar Series, "Military and Veteran Couples: Evidence-Based Approaches to Treatment". We’ve got one last session in this round, this Tuesday, we’ll present “An Intervention Model for Working with Military Couples Who have Experienced Infidelity”. If you missed any parts, we’ll be holding all three parts of the series on 17 May. Each course stands alone and participants can take one or all three, depending on their interest. Each course also comes with two CE credits and registration for each is only $10. For more information or to register, head over to the CWS section of our website.
Also on Tuesday, we’ll be holding our latest CDP Presents, entitled “Ethical Considerations for Working with Military Members and Veterans.” This 90-minute webinar, led by Dr. Jeff Cook, will run from noon to 1:30 p.m. It will present a general overview of ethical issues that can arise when civilian providers work with the military population. A summary of basic terms will be presented with examples. Ethical challenges that are commonly encountered when working with military clients will be presented and discussed. Discussion of each ethical challenge will be augmented with a clinical vignette that illustrates the challenge with a real-world example. As with most of our CDP Presents webinars, participants who attend and complete a short post-training survey/evaluation will be eligible for one free CE. While you’re there, you can also sign up for our 21 March event, “MTBI in Adults – Pathophysiology, Clinical Recover, and Intervention with ‘Complex’ Cases.”
Speaking of online events, registration is currently ongoing for next month’s online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) on 14-15 March. Registration is $45 and comes with 13.5 CE credits. All our currently scheduled events can be found on our upcoming training calendar. If you would like to be notified by email of upcoming online events, you can also sign up by completing the form here.
This week in the CDP Blog, Deb Nofziger examined a common issue with Veterans and their families, in her entry “Why Veterans Struggle Opening Up to Loved Ones.” In it she details her own experiences working with Veterans and some possible ways to help with this. Also, as always, don’t forget to check out this week's Research Update, with the latest news, journal articles, and useful links from around the Web.
That’s it for this time around. Have a great weekend everyone. We hope to see you back here on Monday for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” series!
