CDP News: 16 March 2018

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We’re already halfway through March and spring is just around the corner!

On Wednesday and Thursday, we held our latest online evidence-based psychotherapy training on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D). Our next two-day event will be the 12-13 April online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia via Second Life. Registration for the event is $45 and comes with 13.5 CE credits. All our currently scheduled events can be found on our upcoming training calendar. If you would like to be notified by email of upcoming online events, you can also sign up by completing the form here. We’re currently working on scheduling dates and topics for the remainder of 2018. So keep an eye on the training calendar for more great events coming up!

Speaking of upcoming online events, on Tuesday we’ll be holding our next CDP Presents webinar, “MTBI in Adults – Pathophysiology, Clinical Recover, and Intervention with ‘Complex’ Cases.” This seminar will first review definitions of MTBI, explain the pathophysiology of changes that happen in the brain, and discuss the most typical pattern of good recovery. Common-sense, clinically effective strategies to help individuals recover well from MTBI will be reviewed. In this seminar the term ‘Complex’ MTBI is used to describe cases in which an individual is at risk for prolonged symptoms. Factors that contribute to Complex cases will be reviewed along with strategies clinicians can use to improve outcomes. As with most of our CDP Presents webinars, all participants who successfully complete a post-training survey and evaluation will receive one free CE.

We still train the old-fashioned way too! On Tuesday and Wednesday, we visited Indianapolis to train as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program. Then next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we’ll have trainers in Kentucky, Ohio and Oregon for additional SBHP events. SBHP is a tier-based continuing education program offering CEUs to clinical professionals through up-to-date workshops focused on the unique needs of the military community at no cost. SBHP is offered in select states to enhance behavioral health providers’ scope of knowledge and skills for treating military Service members, Veterans and their families with reintegration- and deployment-related concerns. For more information about the SBHP program or to find out if it is available in your state visit our SBHP section here.

This week’s Staff Perspective was entitled “All You Need is Love? Not Quite!” by Erin Frick. In it, she takes a look at how PTSD can affect both Service members and their significant others. She also discusses Cognitive-Behavioral Conjoint Therapy for PTSD. Also, as always, don’t forget to check out this week's Research Update, with the latest news, journal articles, and useful links from around the Web.

Have a great weekend and enjoy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! We look forward to seeing everyone back here on Monday for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” series! In the meantime, make sure you're following CDP on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
