CDP News: 13 July 2018

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It's Friday the 13th, but we hope you're not having any bad luck.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we held our latest online EBP training Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) via Second Life. Our next online training will be on 24 July, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eastern, Assessing Military Clients for Trauma and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder via Zoom. This workshop will review a method for screening, assessment, and treatment outcome monitoring of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) centered on the use of the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL5). Registration for this event is $15 and comes with 3.5 CEs. Sign-ups will close next Friday, so if you're interested in registering, do it today!

Then on 26 July from noon to 1:30 p.m. we will be holding the next CDP Presents event, “Be Ready – The Role of Culturally-Informed Multidisciplinary Care in Recovery.” This is a continuation of our "Forces  for Health" program from May. This webinar will examin the readiness of providers, both in the VA and private care, to deliver culturally competent care to Veterans and military-connected patients. As with most of our CDPP events, those who register, attend and complete a brief post-training survey/evaluation will receive one free CE.

Registration is also available for our online training in Prolonged Exposure via Second Life on 2-3 August. This event is $45 and comes with 13.5 CEs. If you would like to be notified by email of upcoming online events, you can also sign up by completing the form here.

This week's Staff Perspective was "Revisiting the Power fo Stigma" by Dr. Paula Domenici. In it, Dr. Domenici examined the stigma surrounding mental health care and how that impacts Service members and Veterans. Also, don’t forget to check out our weekly Research Update, as usual, it’s a great summary of the latest news, journal articles, and useful links from around the web.

That's all for this week. We hope everyone has a great weekend out there. We'll see you next Monday for a brand new entry in our "By the Numbers" series!
