CDP News: 14 December 2018
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. The holidays are getting closer, but we still had lots to do this week.
On Wednesday, we held our monthly CDP Presents webinar entitled "Working with LGBT Service Members and Veterans - An Overview". If you missed it, don't worry! We'll be posting a recording of the event for on-demand viewing. Check our Webinars and Online Courses section next week and it should be available. In the meantime, you can sign up for next month’s CDP Presents webinar "Blueprints for Suicide Treatment in the Military - The Lost Art of Case Conceptualization." This webinar will define two types of case conceptualization and identify how case conceptualizations are relevant for suicide-focused psychotherapeutic treatment. Through the use of a hypothetical patient example, the presenters will demonstrate how case conceptualizations can be used to prioritize treatment targets for suicidal military-connected individuals. It will be held on 15 January, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Participants will be eligible to receive 1.5 free CEs after attending and completing a post-training survey and knowledge evaluation.
On Thursday and Friday we held a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia training in Zoom to a full house. It was one of our first two-day EBP training events in Zoom and it was very successful. We'll be holding more events using this platform in 2019. So keep an eye out or check the Upcoing Training Calendar. Our next Zoom-based event will be the Suicide Prevention training coming up in February. Registration for that should be opening next week.
Speaking of upcoming training events. There are still a few slots available for January’s Prolonged Exposure (PE) training via Second Life. It will be held on 24-25 January from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Registration for this event is $45 and comes with 13.5 CEs. We've shifted the time a bit from our usual schedule to accomodate some participants in other timezones. It's filling up quickly and will most likely sell out. So if you are intersted in attending, we suggest signing up soon!
The next round of CDP’s Couples Webinar Series is also available for sign-ups. The series now consists of four two-hour webinars which will be held from 7-9 p.m. Eastern every Tuesday in February. The course topics are “Military and Veteran Couples: Elements of the Assessment Process,” “Military and Veteran Couples: Evidence-Based Approaches to Treatment,” “An Intervention Model for Working with Military Couples Who Have Experienced Infidelity,” and “Intimate Partner Violence: An Overview of Assessment and Response with Military-Connected Clients.” Tuition for each individual course is $18 or all four courses can be purchased as a bundle for $60. Each course comes with two CEs as well. To register or for more information about any of the webinars, you can visit the CWS page here.
This week in the CDP blog, our Staff Perspective piece was by Dr. Deb Nofziger, "Becoming an Active Duty Behavioral Health Provider - An Unpreparable Journey." In it, Dr. Nofziger describes her own experiences, both becoming an active duty military psychologist, as well her current duties training interns who are making the journey themselves. Also, don't forget to check out this week's Research Update. As always, it's packed with the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.
With that, we'll bring this edition of CDP News to a close. We hope everyone has a great weekend. Come back and see us on Monday for a new entry in our By the Numbers series!
