CDP News: Aug. 23, 2013

Welcome to Friday and the latest edition of CDP News! We're going to take a few moments to look at the latest happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, as well as upcoming events on the schedule. It's been a busy week for our training staff, especially for the rapidly expanding Star Behavioral Health Providers program. Dr. Holly O'Reilly was in Indiana to provide the Tier II level training to providers as part of that program. Dr. David Riggs and Dr. Bill Brim traveled to Atlanta, GA to train a class on teaching the Tier I training to other individuals.

Yesterday Dr. Paula Domenici and Dr. Diana Sermanian were in Madison, WI to present the University Counseling Center Core Competency program at the University of Madison. The next event for the UC4 program will be at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, PA. For more information on this or other aspects of the UC4 program, visit our UC4 section.

The week-long Addressing the Psychological Health of Warriors and Their Families course is scheduled for 7-11 October in San Diego, CA. It's a great opportunity for providers to increase their knowledge and skills for working with Service Members, Veterans and their families. We'll be announcing details and opening registration for another five-day regional course within the next few weeks as well, so keep an eye on our training page.

Highlights of the blog this week included Dr. Debra Nofziger's look at the documentary "Soldiers of Conscience" an intriguing examination of soldiers who have chosen to become conscientious objectors. It's a complicated subject that's well-worth examining. This week's Research Update had a variety of great information on deployment psychology-related topics.

That's it for this week. Have a great weekend and we'll see you back here on Monday with a brand-new By the Numbers update.
