CDP News: 25 August 2017
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We’re already into the last week of August and summer will be over before we know it.
Tuesday and Wednesday we held our latest EBP training in Second Life, a suicide prevention training. Our next online EBP event will be a Cognitive Processing Training event on 19-20 September. This CPT event will be presented via Zoom. You can find more info on the Zoom platform on our online training page here. All of our currently scheduled events can be found on our upcoming training calendar. If you would like to be notified when registration begins for any upcoming online event, you can sign up by completing the form here.
September is Suicide Awareness Month. To help spotlight this important topic, the CDP be presenting a weekly webinar throughout the month starting 6 September. We’ll be teaming up with Cohen Veterans Network to offer one free CE credit for each webinar. Simply sign up, attend the webinar, complete a short post-training survey/evaluation, and you’ll be emailed your CE certificate within two to four weeks! The specific topics of the webinars are as follows. The first event on 6 September will be entitled “Veteran Suicide Data and VA Prevention Programs”. Then on 13 September, we’ll have “Suicide Risk Assessment.” 20 September will feature “The Safety Planning Intervention for Reducing Suicide Risk.” Finally, on 27 September, we will present “Means Restriction and Talking to Suicidal Veterans About Firearms.” All of the webinars will be presented from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern via Adobe Connect.
Speaking of spotlights, if you haven’t already, make sure you take a look at the Moral Injury spotlight we put together for August. It’s got several great resources for learning more about moral injury, including blogs, recordings of webinars, and links to several other handy websites.
This week’s Staff Perspective in the CDP blog was by Tim Rogers. In it, he discussed an article on a study examining the sleep functioning of at-home partners over the course of military deployment. He also provided the recommendations from the study. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.
Okay, that’s all for this time around. We hope everyone gets the chance to enjoy the summer weather while it lasts this weekend! Make sure to come back and see us on Monday for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” column!
