CDP News: 26 May 2017
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We’re heading into the final few days of May. Next week is a short week, but we’ve got a few things coming up all the same.
We were supposed to hold our latest CDP Presents webinar, “Working With LGBT Service Members” on Tuesday, but unfortunately, due to some technical issues, we has cancel the event. We’re working on rescheduling the event. We’ll send out an announcement and update our training calendar once we’ve got a replacement date in place. In the meantime, June’s event “Challenges to Evidence-Based Practice in Treating PTSD: Practical Solutions” is also available for registration. This event will be held on 29 June from noon to 1:30 p.m. As with most of our CDP Presents events, everyone who registers, attends, and completes a brief post-training survey/evaluation will be eligible to receive one free CE.
We spent Tuesday and Wednesday in Lantham, NY as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers program (SBHP). SBHP is offered in select states to enhance behavioral health providers’ scope of knowledge and skills for treating military Service members, Veterans, and their families with reintegration- and deployment-related concerns. For more information about this great program and to find out if it’s available in your home state, head over to the SBHP section of our site.
Due to the Memorial Day holiday and shortened week, there’s not a lot going on in terms of training next week. Our next multi-day EBP training will be a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) training on 14-15 June. We’ve also added the dates for the next year of online events. Head over to our upcoming training calendar and see what’s coming up. If you’d like to be notified via email when registration begins for these future online training events please complete the form here.
While we’re not presenting any training events next week, that doesn’t mean you can’t work on improving your knowledge and skills! The CDP website has a variety of tools and training opportunities you can take advantage of whenever you would like. Visit the “Learn Now” section of our website for an overview. There are links to self-paced online courses, webinars, podcasts, videos, and much more. Head over and take a look at all of the great options available. If there’s something you’d like to see, feel free to let us know!
This week in the CDP Blog, Dr. Diana Dolan discussed a vital topic for behavioral providers: consultation. This week’s Staff Perspective is entitled “From the Horse’s Mouth – What You Should Know About Consultation.” Attending a training is only the start of learning how to administer an EBP. Follow-up consultation is vital. Learn more about the process in this week’s entry. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.
That’s all for this week. Over this long weekend, we hope everyone has the opportunity to take a few moments to reflect upon the reason for the holiday and the sacrifices made by Service members, Veterans, and their families, both now and in the past.
