CDP News: 28 June 2019

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We're wrapping up June and with it our month-long spotlight on PTSD Awareness.

If you haven't had the chance to yet, we encourage everyone to take a few minutes to explore our PTSD Awareness Month page. It's packed with some great information, resources, blogs, and more focused on PTSD. We hope you'll take a look!

On the training front, we had plenty going on this week as well. On Tuesday we held the latest iteration of our "Serving Student Veterans on Campus" program. It's a little different than our usual offerings, but we feel like it's an important course to have. We're looking to schedule another session in the spring. Then on Wednesday we held the last of this month's CDP Presents webinars, "Understanding and Managing Anger and Aggression in PTSD". If you missed this one or any of the previous events, we'll have recordings available for on-demand viewing on our archived webinars page here. The CDP Presents webinar series will be taking the month of July off to rest and recover. However, we'll be back in action on 21 August with our next topic, "Human Performance Optimization: A Paradigm Shift to Improve Mental Health Care of Service Members."

Speaking of upcoming online training events, registration is currently available for the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) on 30-31 July. There are only a few spots left though. So if you're interested in attending, we suggest signing up soon. The August Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) event is sold out already. However, we have two other events in September that are available, Cognitive Behanioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention on 10-11 September via Second Life and Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)5-26 September via Zoom. For more information about other upcoming event, be sure to join our monthly email list by completing this form

This week's Staff Perspective was by Dr. Kimber Copeland "Faith Heals - Integrating Spirituality to Treat Moral Injury Associated with Combat-Related PTSD." In it, Dr. Copeland discusses using a how to use a patient's faith to assist with Moral Injury. She provides some examples from her own work and touches on some relevant research as well. Also, don't forget to check out this week's Research Update. As always, it's packed with the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web, with a special section on PTSD-focused section, as well.

That's it for this week. Thanks for joining us for another CDP News. Have a good weekend and come back again on Monday for a new "By the Numbers" post.
