CDP News: Apr. 15, 2016
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. April continues to keep all of us busy, which is exactly how we like it. Let’s take a look!
On Tuesday and Wednesday, our trainers were in Columbia, SC and on Wednesday and Thursday in Lansing, MI, as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program. We’ll be back in South Carolina again next week for the program on this Wednesday and Thursday to teach a course on Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
We held a two-day online training in Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy in Second Life on Thursday and Friday. It was another full training, which we’re always glad to see. Our next event will be a training on suicide prevention on 17-18 May. For more information or to register, click here.
Speaking of upcoming online events, the next CDP Presents webinar will be held next Wednesday, entitled “Deploying in Response to an Infection Disease Outbreak: The Impact on Service Member Mental Health”, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern, led by Dr. Amy Adler and Dr. Ann Dobmeyer. As with most of our CDP Presents webinars, those who attend and complete a post-event survey and evaluation will be eligible for one free CE.
If you’re looking for the opportunity to learn and get some CEs, check out the new Joining Forces Wellness Week Video Archive page. We’ve got five hour-long courses from the 2015 JFWW, each of the courses is worth one CE/CNE/CME. Watch the video and then successfully complete the post-test and you’ll be emailed your certificate within four weeks.
Registration for our next Regional Civilian One-Week training event in Boise, ID from 16-20 May is going strong. If you’d like to sign up or for more information, please click here. We’ll also be bringing our One-Week Training program to Columbus, OH on 13-17 June. Registration for this event will begin in the next few weeks. If you would like to be emailed when registration opens, please complete the form here.
In light of the fact that April is the Month of the Military Child, this week’s Staff Perspective was by Dr. Caitlin Cook and Dr. Kimberly Copeland, entitled “Celebrating and Caring for the Military Child: Honoring Our Youngest Heroes Year-Round” Dr. Cook and Dr. Copeland talk about some of the strengths and challenges facing kids in a military family. The Guest Perspective blog, “Employment: Another Tool to Help Your Veteran Clients”, was by Dr. Nathan Ainspan. Dr. Ainspan describes how behavioral health providers can assist Veterans with finding a job, including a series of useful websites and resources that are available. Also, don’t forget to check out the Research Update as usual, it’s got all the latest news, articles, and useful links related to deployment psychology.
That’s all for this time around. Have a great weekend everyone. We’ll see you back here next week for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” feature!
