CDP News: Apr. 4, 2014

Happy Friday and welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. The biggest news this week is about our Regional 1-Week Civilian training events. It’s shaping up to be a very busy next couple of months around the CDP. Today is the final day to register for our Washington, D.C. event 14-18 April. The other major item on that front is that we opened up registration for our 9-13 June event in St. Louis, MO. These are great opportunities for providers to get a lot of important training and skill enhancements.

Also, on the training front, on Tuesday this week we brought our University Counseling Center Core Competency program to St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. Next Thursday, we’ll be headed to the University of Montana Western in Dillon, MT.

Next Thursday and Friday, we’ll be presenting our first Prolonged Exposure Therapy online training workshop via Adobe Connect. We’re really excited about this event and are planning to add more of these types of workshops in the future. If you’re interested in participating in online training, we’ve still got some room on the waiting list for our PE training event via Second Life.

This week in the blog, we mixed it up a little bit, our Staff Perspective entry pointed readers to a great article and study from the Washington Post this week. The story took a look at the results of a national poll of Service members and Veterans, which featured some very interesting results. As always, the Research Update is well worth checking out. It’s got all the latest journal articles, news and useful links from around the Web.

Finally this week, we’d like to welcome Dr. Brandy Hellman to the CDP. She joins us as the Deployment Behavioral Health Psychologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. If you or anyone you know is interested in joining the CDP’s staff, head over to our Jobs page and take a look at the open positions we’ve got available.

That’s all for this time around. Have a great weekend everyone and we’ll see you next week!
