CDP News: Apr. 7, 2017

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It’s starting to feel like spring out there and we spent the week out and about all over!

Our biggest event this week was the Regional Civilian One-Week Training we held just outside of Philadelphia, in King of Prussia, PA. We had a solid turnout and got to meet lots of participants over the week. We’d like to thank everyone who attended and made this event so successful.  We’re already working on the next event for this program. We’ll be posting more information about the upcoming Dallas, TX event soon. If you would like to be notified via email when registration for this and future sessions begins, just complete the form here.

We’ve also had trainers in Kansas City, MO and Rockville, MD for Speakers Bureau events. You can find out more about the Speakers Bureau, including how to bring a CDP speaker to your organizations next event, on our Speakers Bureau page here.

That’s not all! We were also in Terre Haute, IN on, Tuesday and Wednesday, and Macon, GA, on Wednesday and Thursday, as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers program. Next week, we’ll be headed to Akron, OH on Tuesday and Wednesday then Bismark, ND on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for multiple SBHP events. If you’d like to learn more about the SBHP program or find out if it’s available in your state, click here.

In addition to our face-to-face events, we’ve got several online training events coming up as well.  On 18 April, we’ll be holding our next CDP Presents, “Building Military Family Resilience”. Then on 21-22 April, we’ll be holding our Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) training in Second Life. Registration is full for this event. However, registration is currently ongoing for our online Cognitive Processing Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) training on 17-18 May. If you’d like to be notified via email when registration for this and future online training events begins, please complete the form here.

April is the month of the Military Child. To highlight this, CDP faculty member April Thompson’s blog, “Preparing for Another Deployment: Reflection on Month of the Military Child”, talks about her own family’s experiences. She also talks with Meredith Lozar, the Youth Initiatives Director for the National Military Family Association, about NMFA’s Operation Purple Camps for military children.  Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.

That’s all for this this time around. We hope everyone enjoys the weekend. We’ll see you right here on Monday for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” column.
