CDP News: Feb. 7, 2014

Happy Friday and welcome to the latest edition of CDP News! We like to take a few minutes each week to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It’s been a busy week and there’s plenty more on the horizon! First up, on Monday, we officially opened up registration for the next iteration of the regional civilian 1-week training program. This event is going to be held 14-18 April 2014 in Washington, D.C. We’ve already had plenty of interest in this one. If you’re interested in attending, make sure you sign up soon, as space is limited! For more information about this event and the 1-week program, please click here.

Speaking of upcoming training events, we also added Clemson University in South Carolina to our slate of upcoming host schools for the University Counseling Center Core Competency program. For those of you who are unable to attend one of our training events in person, we’re also getting closer to opening registration for our online Prolonged Exposure (PE) workshops in April and May. Keep an eye on our Training page, Facebook and Twitter for the latest details as soon as they’re released.

We also spent this week running the first segment of our 8-day, military-orientated training Topics in Deployment Psychology. It’s off to a good start and we’re looking forward to the second part of the course next week. We’d like to thank all of our staff, guest participants and attendees for making the first 5 days a success.

If that wasn’t enough, in addition to training events in Cherry Point, North Carolina and at Fort Gordon in Georgia, we were also out in California to help provider training for the Star Behavioral Health Providers initiative. We’re hard at work advancing the mission of the CDP where ever we can!

In this week’s Staff Perspective, Dr. Bill Brim took a look at a question we recently received about the possibility of incorporating treatment for insomnia into the standard CPT for PTSD protocol. It’s an interesting read, check it out here if you missed it. This week’s Research Update is definitely worth your time as well. It’s got plenty of great journal articles, relevant news, and useful links from all around the Web.

That’s all for this time around. Check back on Monday for a brand new entry in our By The Numbers series; until then have a great weekend everyone!
