CDP News: Jan. 30, 2015

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Today means we made it through the first month of what promises to be an increasingly busy year!

Our trainers were hitting the road hard this week! The Star Behavioral Health Providers program sent presenters to Franklin, IN, Columbia, SC and California. Then we also delivered a Prolonged Exposure Therapy training in Florida at MacDill AFB. Today also marks the second day of a CPT training right here in Rockville, Maryland. We’ll pause to enjoy a well-earned weekend and then it’s right back at it, as we kick off our week-long Topics in Deployment and Military Psychology course.

Today is also the final day for registration for the next Prolonged Exposure Therapy training via Second Life. This event will take place next Thursday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. EST. There are still a few spots left if you’re interested in taking part. Speaking of online training, we also opened up registration for our Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) via Adobe Connect. This one will be held from 9 a.m. to 5:30 EST on 18-19 February. Registration for this two-day training is $30 and comes with 13.5 CEUs. This is a frequently requested topic, so we expected the limited number of seats to fill up quick.

If you’re looking for face-to-face training, registration for the Southwest Regional Civilian 1-Week Training is going strong.  We’re headed to Phoenix, AZ from 16-20 March for this one. This week-long training includes a choice in tracks, one on PTSD treatment, while the other focuses on health psychology. For more information on this great training, you can click here to see the agenda. Registration cost $95 and there are more than 30 CEUs available during the program. Space is limited for this event, so if you’re interested in attending, we encourage you to sign up today.

This week’s Staff Perspective column was written by Dr. Diana Dolan. She takes a look at Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Diagnoses of OSA have increased six-fold in the past decade. Dr. Dolan examines the relationship between trauma exposure and OSA. In other CDP Blog news, if you haven’t already, don’t forget to take a look at this week’s new Research Update. As always it’s packed with the latest news, articles and useful links and well-worth checking out.

That’s all we’ve got for this time around.  We hope everyone has a great weekend and joins us back here next week for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” column.
